On August 8, more than 450 ocean lovers gathered at The Crow’s Nest in Montauk for the Surfrider Foundation’s annual One Ocean gala. Together, we celebrated the people who are helping shape the future of our ocean and raised more than $700,000 to support Surfrider’s mission to protect our ocean, waves, and beaches.

With views of Lake Montauk as the backdrop, guests came together for an evening of live music by Diplo, craft cocktails, a curated dinner, and one-of-a-kind silent and live auctions. But One Ocean is about more than one night — it is about building the community and resources needed to ensure that the places we love today remain healthy, accessible, and thriving for generations to come.
A highlight of the evening was honoring Greg Long, a lifelong ocean advocate whose connection to the sea has shaped both his career and his commitment to protecting it. The Wavemaker Award was presented to Greg by Jeremy Jones, legendary snowboarder, environmental advocate, and founder of Protect Our Winters. Their shared belief in protecting the places that inspire us — and their commitment to turning that passion into action — made the moment especially meaningful.

For Greg, protecting the ocean is deeply personal. From his early years as a professional big-wave surfer to his work advocating for coastal protection and climate action, he has consistently used his platform to stand up for the places that have given him so much. His leadership is a reminder that protecting the ocean is not simply about preserving what we have today, it is about taking responsibility for what we leave behind.
Every year, our ocean and coastal communities face growing threats from pollution, climate change, coastal development, and loss of access. The choices we make now will shape the coastline of the future. That is why Surfrider’s work is rooted in lasting, community-driven solutions, whether it’s protecting clean water, reducing plastic pollution, restoring coastal ecosystems, or defending the public’s right to access the coast.

In Eastern Long Island and across the country, Surfrider’s grassroots network is turning that commitment into action. The Eastern Long Island Chapter’s Blue Water Task Force helps communities understand and address local water quality issues. Campaigns to reduce single-use plastic pollution are creating lasting policy change. Dune restoration events help communities prepare for a changing climate while protecting the beaches and shorelines that define them. The more than $700,000 raised at One Ocean will help sustain and expand this work.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this year’s One Ocean possible. To our guests, donors, host committee, volunteers, and friends: thank you for choosing to invest in the future of our ocean. Your generosity gives Surfrider the resources to keep showing up — on the beach, in our communities, and wherever decisions are being made that affect our coast.
We are also grateful to our generous One Ocean sponsors: Patagonia, Gray Whale Spirits, Faherty, and LaCroix. Thank you for standing with Surfrider and helping ensure that the next generation inherits an ocean worth protecting.
A special thank you to The Crow’s Nest for once again welcoming the Surfrider community and providing such a beautiful setting for an unforgettable evening.
