The Massachusetts Surfrider Chapter hosted their 22nd annual STOKEE (Surfing To Offer Kids Environmental Education) event at DCR Nahant Beach! STOKEE centers around one of Surfrider’s key principles; opening access and connecting people to our ocean waves and beaches for protection and enjoyment.

This year, the chapter collaborated with Elevate Youth and the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester to get an amazing group of kids out surfing, almost all for their first time ever. The conditions at DCR Nahant Beach were perfect for beginners, with a two foot swell, clear, sunny skies, and lots of stoke to be shared!

Aside from the opportunity to surf and get hands-on surf lessons, STOKEE also features a beach cleanup for those who would prefer to stay on land. This gives the kids the chance to learn about the power of protecting our ocean, waves and beaches and see how much of an impact each and every one of them can make.

After surfing and the cleanup end, the event closes with a pizza party, and a chance for everyone to circle up and share their favorite memory of the day. This event would not be possible without the generous support of Cape Ann SUP & Surf Co, a local, family owned shop that donated boards and wetsuits for the day, and taught lessons free of charge.

Additionally, without the help of all the amazing volunteers, both those in the water and on land, the event would not have been as successful. The chapter is extremely grateful to all our volunteers, supporters, and participants for making the 22nd annual STOKEE event one for the books, filled with lots of surf and lots of smiles.
