Vote for your favorite upcycled watercraft in this year's Creators and Innovators Contest

For the sixth year in a row, Surfrider has teamed up with Vissla to challenge our network to “turn waste into want” through the Creators and Innovators Upcycle Contest. We asked contestants around the world to create a wave riding craft out of old or found materials and share photos of their project and process and, as has been true each year, the 2020 submissions did not disappoint!

Typically, a panel of judges examine the final projects and determine a winner, but this year, for the first time ever, we are opening up the voting process to the public! Individuals now have the opportunity to view each project, learn about the process and materials used to create it and cast their votes for the first, second, and third place winners.

Public voting is open now through October 16th at 11:59 PM (PST). The final public vote rankings will count as 1 of 3 votes to determine the winners, and the remaining two votes will come from our judges, Surfrider CEO, Chad Nelsen and Vissla CEO, Paul Naude.

Judging will be based on innovation, functionality, creativity, design, and aesthetics. Finalists’ projects will be displayed and winners will be announced at the live, digital event held on October 28, 2020. Check out @visslasurf on Instagram for the link to tune in live!
