CEO Address: COVID 19 Update

Surfrider Foundation CEO Address from Dr. Chad Nelsen

In these challenging times, I would like to thank our amazing network and supporters for their dedication to protecting our ocean, waves and beaches. Like all of you, we are rapidly adjusting to a world where we are working from our homes, side by side with our families and pets.

During this time, it’s important to remember that Surfrider is more than a coastal conservation organization, we are a community of people who care for the coast and each other. So we are mobilizing our network to support each other while still focusing on ocean and coastal protection.

The best thing you can do right now is stay home, and when out practice social distancing. We love the beach and surfing as much as anyone but we have seen beach closures around the country and the world due to overcrowding, so please stay local, honor closures, and avoid crowded public spaces. This is all part of helping us get back to the beach as soon as possible.

That said, we are still focusing on coastal and ocean conservation. Just last week, we provided important information on water quality, your health, and COVID-19, and how to continue to safely use your reuseables and avoid single-use plastics.

For those choosing to order take-out, we also ask that you support your local Ocean Friendly Restaurants. This is a great way to support local businesses and help minimize your plastic footprint.

In the coming weeks, we will be providing you helpful tips for ways you can continue protecting our planet while respecting the stay-at-home measures to help flatten the curve.

For over 35 years, Surfrider has faced countless challenges, and while these are unprecedented times, we will get through this together.

Thank you for being part of Surfrider and for your continued support.
